If you are just starting an MBA program, here are some tips for surviving your first year.

  1. Before your first class, take some time to tour your school. When you don’t know where you are going, it can be hard to get to class on time and find the resources you need for the program. Make sure you familiarize yourself with the location of your classes as well as any of the facilities you might use including the library, career center, and admissions office.
  2. Make sure you develop a schedule that will allow you to make it to all your classes and complete the coursework. It can be especially difficult to accomplish this if you are balancing a job and your family with your education. A schedule will help you stay on top of everything you need to accomplish.
  3. During the course of the program, you will be required to work on team projects and study in groups. It is important that you learn to work in a group early on in the program. Working in groups is also a great way to network with others of like mind.

While you may feel uncomfortable when you first enter an MBA program, the school will eventually feel like your second home. Thakurdeo Rampersaud has been working as an accountant for more than fifteen years after completing the MBA program at Stetson University in Florida.
